FAQ

We get it. We’re not the usual tournament. Here are some answers.

What makes Collisions a Different tournament?

We play Dragon Ball Z in the background? But really, we like spectacle. So not only are we different in that we are a non-cash prized, round-robin-ish tournament, we like to throw our players a bunch of random bonuses. You can expect anime playing on a projector or side screen — just for sheer ambience. You can expect board games, card games, and other video games to play while you wait for your next match. And you can expect coffee and cookies. Really. We also book a table at a bar afterwards to hang out if you want to get to know your fellow competitors.

Why is it Group Stage Round Robin?

We like round robin because you can really get to know the people you play with. It also means that if you lose in round one or even in round two you’re not knocked out. We want you to feel like you got your money’s worth by getting to play a lot of games with a lot of people.

Why is there no prize money?

Let’s be clear, we are happy to provide prize money at some point. That said, we really want to cater to folks who want to build a community with us so we want to keep the social component foremost and make the tournament accessible to everyone. In our experience, we’ve often found that high prizing tournaments can also get pretty intense (obviously—you’re playing for high stakes) and we wanted to keep it chill — keep it about community and improving at the game. At the end of the day, we just want to build a community that caters to players who just want to play a lot of games, meet people, get better, and grow a community together.

(For the record, we are super supportive of prizing tournaments — it’s just not for us. There are plenty of prizing tournaments around the metro that we think are great!)

How Do I know you guys aren’t just gonna take the money meant for the tournament??

First of all, the money at this point really just pays for the venue. And any extra we get through spectators etc will go straight back into investing into the next one.

Secondly, you can trust us because we all have big-girl jobs that pay a lot more than the time it takes to build a tournament. We’re in this for fun and for the community. If we just wanted money, we’d be escorts and pole dancers (I mean one of us could actually probably do this… probably…maybe…¯\_(ツ)_/¯).

Do you guys even tournament?

Fun fact: We used to run League of Legends tournaments. And one of our guys has a background in event planning. So we like to think we know how to tournament.
